What all does this verse include?

“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me” (Psalm 101:3).

When I read verses like that one, my mind right away goes to books and music. (That’s not all that’s involved here, I’m sure.)

So much CCR (contemporary Christian reading) appeals to the flesh. That must be what sells. Will I consume it for the trace minerals it might add to my diet?

Ditto CCM (contemporary Christian music).

But I enjoy CCR and CCM!

Even so, it still shouldn’t cleave (that is, stick) to me.

No matter how much something appeals to me and not matter how much I enjoy something, God’s approval should matter more to me.

I truly need His help in living by that standard!

  1. I have found many verses in the bible that deal with the issue of bad sensory input as I call it. These verses include Psalm 101, proverbs chapter 19 verse 27, proverbs chapter 13 verse 20, proverbs chapter 14 verse 7, luke chapter 11 verse 33, romans chapter 16 verse 17, 1 Timothy chapter 6 verse 5, 2 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 14, 2 Peter chapter 2 verse 7. I interpret these as meaning we should set no wicked thing before our sensory organs, such as all television, worldly music, most parts of the newspapers, most magazines, listening to foolish talk, looking at people performing evil deeds, movies, bad internet sites, looking at women wearing immodest apparel or “man-bait”, having fellowship with foolish and unsaved people, reading wordly books. And see and hear that which is good such as the bible.

Surely you could add something...
