Be Kingly!

Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.

Proverbs 20:28

Reading:

Proverbs 20:20-30

“Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee” (Proverbs 20:22).

That always applies to me.

But right now, that principle should guide my response in a particular situation that doesn’t even involve someone doing evil to me in a purposeful, malicious, attacking way.

For reinforcement of the principle…five more verses:

“Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work” (Proverbs 24:29).

“Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men” (Romans 12:17).

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord” (Romans 12:19).

“See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men” (1 Thessalonians 5:15).

“Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing” (1 Peter 3:9).

May I avoid vengeance and may I choose blessing instead — cheerfully, willingly, thankfully.

The Scriptures say in Proverbs 20:24 -- Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?
