Packs Pursuing Presidency

DJ Drummond has an interesting (and in its own way, funny) post over at WizBangBlog. Here’s his opening:

I still remember my first elected office. I was out sick from Junior High, and when I returned to school the next day I discovered that I had been elected to Student Council, without my knowledge and against my will. In those days and at Lake Highlands Junior High, Student Council meant having to come early to school and do extra work for no visible benefit or reward. Consequently, Council members were usually elected against their will. It had, if nothing else, a certain honesty to it – none of the members really wanted to be there, and so elections were pretty straightforward affairs. Not so the White House, a difficult and draining post for anyone who wins the office, and yet there is no shortage of incompetents who believe they are a perfect fit for the job. Worse, there are many people running in any given year, whose performance would be damaging to the country and so they should be quickly dissuaded from chasing the nomination.

I’ve been far too busy with more important things to post here regarding my own Presidential ambitions.

But DJ’s post reminds me.

😀

We’ll see.

Mismatched

Does anybody care?

Norwegian and British fighter jets were scrambled to intercept Russian bombers over the north Atlantic, the latest in a series of such incidents, Norway’s military command said Friday.

Two Russian Tupolev-160 bombers or “Blackjacks” were detected by the NATO allies flying along the Norwegian coast before passing by northern Scotland, a military spokesman told AFP.

“We dispatched two F-16s from Bodoe airbase (in the north of Norway) to identify them,” Lieutenant-Colonel Jon Inge Oegland said, adding that Britain had also sent aircraft.

bomber and fighter

More questions . . . .

Is that truly an F-16?

Would a “fight” between these two aircraft be “fair”?

If you ignore the blackjacks will they go away?

Will we hear next that it was carrying nukes by mistake?

Spotted Nukes?

From Ynetnews:

Israel believes that North Korea has been supplying Syria and Iran with nuclear materials, a Washington defense official told the New York Times. “The Israelis think North Korea is selling to Iran and Syria what little they have left,” he said.

The official added that recent Israeli reconnaissance flights over Syria revealed possible nuclear installations that Israeli officials estimate might have been supplied with material from North Korea.

Does anybody care enough?

Come and Get It

“Testing, testing,” said the Israelis.

Syria has said its air defences opened fire on Israeli warplanes after they violated its airspace in the north of the country.

“We’re here,” said the Syrians.

Syrian officials said the defences forced the jets to drop ammunition over deserted areas and turn back, according to the official news agency, Sana.

Israel’s military said it would not comment on the reports.

Israel and Syria remain technically at war and tensions between them have been rising in recent months.

The Syrian government has insisted that peace talks can be resumed only on the basis of Israel returning the Golan Heights, which it seized in 1967.

“Seized,” huh?

That sounds milder (and more victim-oriented) than “conquered in war.”

Whatever. Perhaps the two countries will have further, longer, and more intense “conversations” before too long.

B-52 on the Loose?

No, I guess not.

Well, I hope not, anyway. 😉

But this is quite the headline: B-52 carried nuclear armed cruise missiles by mistake

I wonder if it overflew Tehran by mistake.

No, apparently not.

A B-52 bomber flew the length of the United States last week loaded with six nuclear armed cruise missiles in a major security breach, US military officials said Wednesday.

The lapse was reported to President George W. Bush after the nuclear warheads were discovered when the aircraft landed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, said a military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The US Air Force has relieved the munition squadron commander at Minot Air Base in North Dakota of his duties, and launched an intensive investigation into the incident, a spokesman said.

“At no time was there a threat to public safety,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ed Thomas. “It is important to note that munitions were safe, secure and under military control at all times.”

The Pentagon would not provide specifics, citing secrecy rules, but an expert said the incident was unprecedented and pointed to a disturbing lapse in the air force’s command and control system.

Hmmmm.

Above all, love God!
