{"id":1059,"date":"2008-09-13T08:15:37","date_gmt":"2008-09-13T15:15:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eaf.net\/mvp\/?p=1059"},"modified":"2008-09-28T07:37:34","modified_gmt":"2008-09-28T14:37:34","slug":"one-year-64-member-surge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eaf.net\/mvp\/2008\/one-year-64-member-surge\/","title":{"rendered":"One-Year 64-Member Surge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wnd.com\/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&#038;pageId=75098\">Record 259 corporations honored for &#8216;gay&#8217; support<\/a><\/p>\n<table width=75% align=center bgcolor=pink border=1 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=5>\n<tr>\n<td>The newly released Human Rights Campaign Foundation&#8217;s Corporate Equality Index, which ranks hundreds of businesses on their &#8220;treatment&#8221; of employees who have chosen homosexual, lesbian, bisexual and transgender lifestyles, awards a record 259 corporations perfect scores, including newcomers Campbell&#8217;s Soup and Target.<\/p>\n<p>The total in the 2009 report is up one-third from the 195 corporations so honored in 2008, according to the Human Rights Campaign, which explained that now an estimated nine million workers &#8220;are protected from employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression because of their employers&#8217; policies on diversity &amp; inclusion, training, health care, and domestic partnership benefits.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The report notes that when the evaluation was begun in 2002, there were 13 corporations with such perfect scores \u2013 a total of 100 out of 100 possible \u2013 and that rose to 26 in 2003, 56 in 2004, 101 in 2005, 138 in 2006 and 195 in 2008.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p>If I were into boycotting, I would have to quit doing business with some outfits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>US Airways\n<\/li>\n<li>Dell\n<\/li>\n<li>Target\n<\/li>\n<li>Campbell Soups\n<\/li>\n<li>Visa\n<\/li>\n<li>American Express\n<\/li>\n<li>Bank of America\n<\/li>\n<li>Best Buy\n<\/li>\n<li>Chevron\n<\/li>\n<li>Citigroup\n<\/li>\n<li>Coca-Cola\n<\/li>\n<li>Eastman Kodak\n<\/li>\n<li>eBay\n<\/li>\n<li>Google\n<\/li>\n<li>Intel\n<\/li>\n<li>JC Penney\n<\/li>\n<li>KeyCorp\n<\/li>\n<li>Levi Strauss\n<\/li>\n<li>Macy\n<\/li>\n<li>MasterCard\n<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft\n<\/li>\n<li>PepsiCo\n<\/li>\n<li>Sears\n<\/li>\n<li>UPS\n<\/li>\n<li>Yahoo!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wow!<\/p>\n<p>Time to join the Amish or the Hutterites.<\/p>\n<p>Or move to the Amazon.<\/p>\n<p>Or forget the whole notion of boycotting.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Record 259 corporations honored for &#8216;gay&#8217; support The newly released Human Rights Campaign Foundation&#8217;s Corporate Equality Index, which ranks hundreds of businesses on their &#8220;treatment&#8221; of employees who have chosen homosexual, lesbian, bisexual and transgender lifestyles, awards a record 259 corporations perfect scores, including newcomers Campbell&#8217;s Soup and Target.
