I was quite certain I could win if I made my move be rook captures pawn.<\/p>\n
Then I wondered, “What will Andy do if I advance my pawn instead?” So I did.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Then I looked away from the board to relax my neck and eyes. I figured he’d have to think awhile to decide what to do about his perilous, precarious, unenviable position (poor guy).<\/p>\n
Not so. I’d barely moved and looked away when I heard the verdict:<\/p>\n
<\/a>\nCheckmate!<\/i><\/div>\n
Oh wow! Sure enough!<\/p>\n
<\/a>\nChanging the perspective does nothing to change the outcome.<\/i><\/div>\n
And thus Andrew beat me at chess for the first time. Yahoo! (though not dot com).<\/p>\n
<\/a>\nAnd to think I had the game in the bag!<\/i><\/div>\n
Oooops. I see now that in restaging the above portion of the game for this riveting piece of photo journalism, I forgot to move forward that second black pawn from the right. I suppose I’ll eventually set up the board again and reshoot that scene…and then replace the above photo with the correct one…and then remove this paragraph.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
