(For all that I know, it may still be the capital of &#8220;Mennonitism.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p><b>1821<\/b> &#8212; Mexico gains its independence from Spain&#8230;and borrowed from its 47-year-old northern neighbor&#8217;s name: <i>Estados Unidos Mexicanos<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><b>1905<\/b> &#8212; The journal <i>Annalen der Physik<\/i> publishes Albert Einstein&#8217;s paper &#8220;Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content?&#8221;, introducing the equation E=mc2.<\/p>\n<p><b>1928<\/b> &#8212; The United States recognizes the Republic of China. Would it still recognize it today?<\/p>\n<p><b>1933<\/b> &#8212; Baby Carol was born. Many years later I became her nephew. <b>Happy Birthday, Aunt Carol!<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>1939<\/b> &#8212; Warsaw (Poland) surrenders to <i>both<\/i> the Nazis and the Communists?!<\/p>\n<p><b>1964<\/b> &#8212; The Warren Commission releases its (in)famous report concluding that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in assassinating President John F. Kennedy. Maybe so.<\/p>\n<p><b>1979<\/b> &#8212; The United States Department of Education becomes the thirteenth US Cabinet agency. How lucky is that?!<\/p>\n<p><b>1994<\/b> &#8212; More than 350 Republican congressional candidates gather on the steps of the US Capitol to sign the &#8220;Contract with America.&#8221; How did <i>that<\/i> hope and change work out?<\/p>\n<p><b>2010<\/b> &#8212; Mark and Ruby Roth relocate their sleeping quarters to their next place to live.
