At 11:25 pm last night, Andrew Breitbart tweeted<\/a> an explanation and conditional apology for an earlier derogatory comment to the tweetee.<\/p>\n

Some five minutes later, he wound down a face-to-face conversation with a stranger<\/a>.<\/p>\n

By 12:19 this morning, Andrew Breitbart’s time on Earth wound down<\/a> and he left his body behind in a hospital.<\/p>\n

I learned about Mr. Breitbart’s death on Drudge this morning.<\/p>\n

I read the official announcement<\/a> on his Big Journalism site. (I’ve occasionally visited breitbart.com<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

I read his last tweet.<\/p>\n

And I thought again about the importance of guarding every word.<\/p>\n

Would I want that<\/i> word to be among my last?<\/div>\n

Even if my unkind word isn’t my last, it goes on my account.<\/p>\n

Even if my unwholesome statement isn’t my last, it is on record.<\/p>\n

“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment”<\/span> (Matthew 12:36).<\/p>\n

“For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned”<\/span> (Matthew 12:37).<\/p>\n

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer”<\/span> (Psalm 19:14).<\/p>\n

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers”<\/span> (Ephesians 4:29).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This isn’t about piling on a dead man. This is about a reminder to me about my life and my speech.<\/b><\/p>\n
