Why the focus on Trayvon Martin?<\/p>\n

Scores of people donned “I am Trayvon Martin” apparel.<\/p>\n

The President of the United States claimed Trayvon’s looks for the son he doesn’t have.<\/p>\n

Protests and beatings have been “arranged” in Trayvon’s name. <\/p>\n

Several major news outlets distorted their reporting for Trayvon’s sake (or something).<\/p>\n

Even I posted about it here<\/a> and here<\/a> and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But why?<\/p>\n

Why — out of all the murder victims in the United States this year — Trayvon?<\/p>\n

  1. His black skin color?<\/li>\n
  2. His age?<\/li>\n
  3. His circumstances?<\/li>\n
  4. His “sweet parents” (to quote the special prosecutor)?<\/li>\n
  5. His positive contributions to his community?<\/li>\n
  6. His still-a-child innocence?<\/li>\n
  7. His memory would have been short-lived?<\/li>\n
  8. His value surpasses that of others?<\/li>\n
  9. His killer targeted him for his race?<\/li>\n
  10. His killer murdered him in “cold blood” (as my friend asserted)?<\/li>\n
  11. His killer’s Jewish surname?<\/li>\n
  12. His killer’s “white” skin color?<\/li>\n
  13. His killer’s “mixed race” parentage?<\/li>\n
  14. His killer was going to escape justice?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Just what makes him and his case unique above other American murder victims?<\/p>\n

    Why him out of some 3,000 Americans murdered already in 2012?<\/p>\n

    I have no idea.<\/p>\n

    Just like I have no idea who decided to launch him into this kind of prominence.<\/p>\n

    But I suspect the selection of Trayvon Martin for this role had nothing at all to do with him.<\/p>\n

    And I doubt his case has anything extra-special about it.<\/p>\n

    And what if his mother is right in her assertion that his shooting was accidental? \ud83d\ude2f<\/p>\n

    Well, in entertaining and “scribbling” all this, am I minimizing this young man and his death and the need for justice to be served?<\/p>\n

    Oh. Please. \ud83d\ude44<\/p>\n

    I don’t think Trayvon should have been killed.<\/p>\n

    I don’t think his killer should go unpunished if punishment is merited.<\/p>\n

    But I have similar opinions about other murder victims and their killers. Nothing new there.<\/p>\n

    I’m just very intrigued and troubled by what’s going on here.<\/p>\n

    In this kind of ratched-up climate, can the truth be determined and justice served?<\/p>\n

    I don’t know that either.<\/p>\n

    But I do know this:<\/p>\n

    “He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD”<\/span> (Proverbs 17:15).<\/p>\n

    “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God”<\/span> (Romans 14:12).<\/p>\n
