Mexico will try to pull off a peaceful, sensible election tomorrow<\/a>, in part by doing this:<\/p>\n

In honor of Mexico’s elections this weekend, most of the country will ban alcohol sales.<\/p>\n

It’s up to each state to decide if “la ley seca” or “the dry law” lasts one day or two. In the state of Sonora, head of inspections Dora Maria Tapia, head of inspections says it will be against the law to sell alcohol starting the first minute of Saturday and lasting until the final minute of Sunday night.<\/p>\n

“We’re trying to promote a way of voting that’s peaceful,” she said in Spanish. “And where people have all five senses intact.”<\/p>\n

That reminds me of Proverbs 31:5 — “Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Well, too bad there’s no way for us to know how voting sober affects the outcome of presidential elections.<\/p>\n

Would the United States dare implement such an approach?<\/p>\n
