Because your works are collapsing?

I heard Psalm 90 read in one of our Sunday services. This verse really connected with me:

“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it” (Psalm 90:17).

I wish that for the work of my hands. I ask for that.

Do you need links and photos of what I have in mind? Likely not. I thought to provide them. But why? God knows…and you likely don’t need to.

Suffice it, then, for me to say that it seems the collapse or disintegration of the works of my hands continues to accelerate and spread…in spite of my wishes, efforts, and petitions.

I don’t know what to make of that…except that it’s getting increasingly difficult not to conclude I’ve been on the wrong track for a long time.

Maybe instead of asking God to establish the work of my hands, I should be committing my works to Him:

“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established” (Proverbs 16:3).

Except I think I’ve done that already. Maybe I haven’t. 😐 It certainly sounds like I haven’t, what with unestablished thoughts and works.

Well, whatever is happening, I also remember this:

“Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him” (Job 13:15).

I still believe God is always right.

I have faith in His wisdom and love as well as in His power.

I have to rest in that. Somehow, someway, I have to rest in that.

To close this keep-your-chin-up post, I’ll quote myself from a couple of previous posts. First, from Presumption: “Behold, I Thought”:

So I just ask for His best. And I ask for His help. More of His help. Above what I can ask or think. Far beyond what I deserve.

I know that if He helped me only to the extent I deserve, He wouldn’t help me at all. And if He hadn’t helped me at all, my situation would be even more dire. Actually, I would have ceased to be long ago. So He helps me even when it seems He overlooks me.

And then from I Hate Failure:

“I. Hate. Failure.”

That’s how I planned to start my short devotional talk last Sunday evening before our monthly Moments in Missions.

Oh, hey! Here’s a bit from Can Do Nothing yet:

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).

So there you are — with Christ and through Christ we can go from being a loser to being a victor.

OK. That’s enough of this post.

Well, not quite. Back to that verse I led off with. What does the first part mean?

“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us.”

Are you demolished?
