<\/a><\/p>\nIt was raining. Somewhat to kinda breezy. Not particularly warm. I was wearing my big winter coat, oversized hood umbrellaing my head, hands drawn up into the sleeves.<\/p>\n
I heard a car approaching from behind. Slowing down, it was. <\/p>\n
It eased by me, the driver’s window down, so I could hear him, “How far you going?” (There might have been an are<\/em> in there somewhere.)<\/p>\n “I live along here. I’m just out walking. Thank you!” (That was my amazed, impressed, uplifted shout.)<\/p>\n He waved as he rolled up his window and fed more fuel to his little red PT Cruiser. (I don’t know if he was chewing gum at the same time or not.) We both continued eastward (though neither of us for much longer).<\/p>\n I reached into my pocket and fished out my pocket watch<\/a>. Seven on the dot.<\/p>\n Was he a good Samaritan? Was he wanting to pay back the good an anonymous somebody had done to him once upon a time? Was he a Christian? Did he mean me evil?<\/p>\n I don’t know.<\/p>\n But I doubt he thought I was an angel, sent by God to test him.<\/p>\n Angels. I thought of two books, of which I’ve read only the latter:<\/p>\n Oh, and for the record? I’m no angel.<\/p>\n
