{"id":2847,"date":"2013-11-28T17:26:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-29T01:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eaf.net\/mvp\/?p=2847"},"modified":"2013-11-28T17:35:29","modified_gmt":"2013-11-29T01:35:29","slug":"how-to-make-the-most-of-black-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eaf.net\/mvp\/2013\/how-to-make-the-most-of-black-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Make the Most of Black Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Is the Christian&#8217;s light supposed to shine on black Friday?<\/p>\n<p>What Bible principles or concepts could guide us as we launch out into the pre-dawn darkness in twelve hours or less? <!--more--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t push in front of others.<\/strong> <em>&#8220;Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves&#8221;<\/em> (Philippians 2:3).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Give up the good deal you got so someone else can have it.<\/strong> <em>&#8220;And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise&#8221;<\/em> (Luke 6:31).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t go in the red by spending a bunch of green you don&#8217;t have.<\/strong> <em>&#8220;The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender&#8221;<\/em> (Proverbs 22:7).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Look out for the other person.<\/strong> <em>&#8220;Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others&#8221;<\/em> (Philippians 2:4).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Remember the needy for good.<\/strong> <em>&#8220;Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble&#8221;<\/em> (Psalm 41:7).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep your heart in the right place.<\/strong> <em>&#8220;For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also&#8221;<\/em> (Matthew 6:21).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Show divine love to those around you.<\/strong> <em>&#8220;For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself&#8221;<\/em> (Galatians 5:14).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Wow! I just as well stay home! \ud83d\ude2f<\/p>\n<p>And I didn&#8217;t even get to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anabaptists.org\/clp\/youth\/4-300.html\" title=\"The Life of Contentment | Anabaptists\"><em>&#8220;be content&#8221;<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anabaptists.org\/clp\/youth\/12-296.html\" title=\"The Christian's Response to Riches and Anxiety | Anabaptists\"><em>&#8220;treasures in heaven&#8221;<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/2007\/first-things-first-2\/\" title=\"First Things First | Panting Hart\"><em>&#8220;thou shalt not covet&#8221;<\/em><\/a> and a few others.<\/p>\n<p>Could it be that Gospel concepts and principles aren&#8217;t meant for black Friday? And that imagining such applicability ranges dangerously into pie-in-the-sky radicalness?<\/p>\n<p>Come to think of it, I could let those principles guide me on the other 300+ non-Sunday, money-spending days of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe not. <b>What do you say?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"color:gray\">PS: This pre-dates any portion of my life lived today. I&#8217;ve been thinking about this for a few days. Alas, I let it slide til it&#8217;s too late for this year.
