Last week I wrote a Quick Draft<\/i> of an idea for a blog post on my ebooks blog. But it vanished without a trace when I clicked Save Draft<\/i> the first time! \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n

After searching for it high and low, I gave it up as a loss to a program quirk. It wasn’t much and I didn’t figure it would take me long to reconstruct it. Sometime. \ud83d\ude44<\/p>\n

Well, this evening I saw that WordPress 6.8.3 had been released. I checked to see what it was about and learned…<\/p>\n

The “Quick Draft” tool on the dashboard screen was broken in the 3.8.2 update. If you tried to use it, your draft would disappear and it wouldn’t save.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sooo…that’s what my “misfortune” had been about! I was glad to see the problem had been discovered and fixed.<\/p>\n

But I was very impressed by this: <\/p>\n

It’s possible that the quick draft you lost last week is still in the database, and just hidden from view. As an added complication, these “discarded drafts” normally get deleted after seven days, and it’s already been six days since the release. If we were able to rescue your draft, you’ll see it on the “All Posts” screen after you update to 3.8.3. We’ll also be pushing 3.8.3 out as a background update, so you may just see a draft appear.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well, now, that was an exciting possibility. As soon as I could, I buzzed over to the affected blog<\/a> to see if the WordPress team had been able to work their magic on my missing draft.<\/p>\n
