I was going to warn you the morning of August 26 when I first read this. I hope I’m not too late to save your bacon.<\/p>\n

(To whom it may concern: I mean no harm with bacon<\/em> nor with speaking of yours.)<\/p>\n

The federal government is spending nearly $1 million to create an online database that will track “misinformation” and hate speech on Twitter.The National Science Foundation is financing the creation of a web service that will monitor “suspicious memes” and what it considers “false and misleading ideas,” with a major focus on political activity online.<\/p>\n

The “Truthy” database, created by researchers at Indiana University, is designed to “detect political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution.” <\/p>\n

“This service could mitigate the diffusion of false and misleading ideas, detect hate speech and subversive propaganda, and assist in the preservation of open debate,” the grant said.<\/p>\n

I read elsewhere<\/a> that “they” hope “the public will use their tool in the future to report on other Twitter users.”<\/p>\n

OK, let me give you a tip: Merely eschewing Twitter<\/a> isn’t the answer for you.<\/p>\n

Now a question: Which of the following statements is the most hateful?<\/p>\n

Most divorce and remarriage is sin.<\/p>\n

Incest is evil.<\/p>\n

Abortion is an abomination.<\/p>\n

Spanking is an acceptable form of child discipline.<\/p>\n
