The ungodly are ever more on the rise.

Everywhere.

In politics. In entertainment. In education. In science. In literature.

In the courts. In the public square. In the media.

Even in religion. Even in the Christian church.

Is God losing control?

Are His plans and purposes being messed up?

“God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness” (Psalm 47:8).

No, God is not losing control!

No, God’s plans and purposes are not being fouled up!

Even when things are changing . . . .

Even when things are shaking and cracking and falling apart . . . .

Even when I am troubled and in trouble . . . .

No matter what . . . .

The God of the universe is present right here with me.

That message resonates through Psalm 46, short though it be.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (1).

“God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early” (5).

“The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge” (7,11).
