Why should I turn to God in my distress? Why should I call out to Him in my need?

How do I know He will listen? How do I know He can help?

Because He has in the past!

“For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy” (Psalm 61:3).

His love, power, mercy, and faithfulness in the past will repeat themselves in the present and in the future.

He is an unchanging God. He is a dependable God. He is a trustworthy God.

So I trust Him.

“Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies” (Psalm 60:12).

When I face life with God’s help and by His grace, I can do it with courage and valor.

Whatever the challenge, whatever the problem, whatever the obstacle — through God I can do it. And valiantly, at that.

That’s easy to write. Except I know other people will read this, so I feel a little squeamish about writing it. It sounds so positive and upbeat when I don’t really feel that way.

But that’s OK. This isn’t about feeling, it’s about believing and trusting.
