Not so long ago, life was more simple. And more difficult. And (perhaps) more fulfilling.

Not so long ago, people generally were more God-aware. And more moral. And more neighbor-connected.

“I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times” (Psalm 77:5).

As we near the end of history, the overall trend is down and away from light.

How will I strengthen and promote the positives of previous generations?

And how will I avoid (or at least minimize) their weaknesses?

In my life.

Though the trend at large is toward darkness and decay, the opposite can be true in me. And in you.

We can be an upgrade, not another downgrade.

We have to be!

How well is God known?

“In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel” (Psalm 76:1).

God’s name used to be great in the United States.

What caused that to change over the decades and from generation to generation?

Diminishing commitment in the hearts of individuals led to that change.

If everyone had my living commitment, would God’s name be great in the USA?

And what about my home state?

Oregon is one of the least religious or unchurched states in the union!

If all of God’s people here made Him known as much as I do, would the state’s ranking change?
