Luke 20:1-18

So the estate owner sent a trusted servant to see how things were going and to collect his dues. What an honor for the servant!

I would like to be such a servant. (Except I balk at the getting beat up part.)

So the master sent another servant, perhaps of greater rank. He got beat up also.

The owner, not one to give up, tried again.

“And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out” (12).

I imagine the third fellow knew the fate of the previous two representatives.

He did his part anyway.

And got the same treatment as the first two.

Would I go on a similar mission?

Have I ever shied away from representing Jesus because I knew how it went for the others?

Peer pressure and problems and persecution can really put a damper on my zeal sometimes.

May He find me a faithful representative anyway!!

Luke 19:28-48

“And they that were sent went their way” (32).

I’ve been sent also — to bless, to encourage, to build up, to help, to be an example, to show the way. Shall I, like they, go my way to do the job that’s been given to me?

“And found even as he had said” (32).

He wasn’t wrong then. He isn’t wrong now. He will never be wrong. So I will build my life on what Jesus has to say.

“Because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation” (44).

Most of the people didn’t realize the Messiah was among them. And a few seemed to realize, but refused to accept Him. Jesus is still among us. His Spirit is with me. But I forget so often in a day! I want to do better at remembering His presence with me — and live accordingly.

“And he taught daily in the temple. But . . .” (47).

I read His teaching . . . but. I hear His teaching through others . . . but. But other matters distract me and I tune Him out. Sometimes it happens in my private Bible reading, sometimes in public church services. Too bad they missed His teaching then. Too bad I miss His teaching now.

“All the people were very attentive to hear him” (48).

That’s how I want to be!
