{"id":1198,"date":"2009-09-18T08:08:56","date_gmt":"2009-09-18T14:08:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eaf.net\/pantinghart\/?p=1198"},"modified":"2009-09-18T08:08:56","modified_gmt":"2009-09-18T14:08:56","slug":"pride-and-sweetness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/2009\/pride-and-sweetness\/","title":{"rendered":"Pride and Sweetness"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"reading\">Reading:<\/p>\n<h3>Proverbs 16<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>I read this chapter two mornings ago&#8230;and only now am getting to this part!<\/p>\n<p>Two trains of thought impress(ed) me: pride and properly-seasoned speech.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"bible\">&#8220;Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished&#8221;<\/span> (5).<\/p>\n<p><i>abomination<\/i> &#8212; hateful, despicable, utterly gross; to be rejected, opposed, and cast away.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone that is proud. No exceptions. Wow! \ud83d\ude2f<\/p>\n<p>Need more divine perspective on pride?<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"bible\">&#8220;Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall&#8221;<\/span> (18).<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"bible\">&#8220;Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud&#8221;<\/span> (19).<\/p>\n<p>Why would anyone want pride?!<\/p>\n<p>And why would anyone relish tasteless speech? Or worse yet, bad-tasting speech?<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"bible\">&#8220;The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning&#8221;<\/span> (21).<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"bible\">&#8220;Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones&#8221;<\/span> (24).<\/p>\n<p>Oh, to have that kind of speech!! With that kind of effect on others and on myself!<\/p>\n<p>Where, oh where, does it come from?! And is it available to <i>me<\/i> (of all people)?<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"bible\">&#8220;The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD&#8221;<\/span> (1).<\/p>\n<p>Oh, yes! Woo hoo!
