{"id":2165,"date":"2018-01-01T06:17:35","date_gmt":"2018-01-01T14:17:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/?p=2165"},"modified":"2018-01-24T20:12:46","modified_gmt":"2018-01-25T04:12:46","slug":"effects-of-knowing-jesus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/2018\/effects-of-knowing-jesus\/","title":{"rendered":"Effects of Knowing Jesus"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"lectura\">Reading:<\/p>\n<h3>2 Peter 1:1-4<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>First, what God says &#8212; because it matters far more and is very foundational to what I have to say&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"passage\">\n<ol>\n<li>Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:<\/li>\n<li>Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,<\/li>\n<li>According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that <em>pertain<\/em> unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:<\/li>\n<li>Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<p>I love the beginning of this book! I have attained to this faith because of and as a result of the righteousness and justice of Jesus. &#8220;My faith is built on nothing less than Jesus&#8217; blood and righteousness&#8221; &#8212; I think that&#8217;s how the hymn goes. Well, this first verse of 2 Peter helps me see that my faith <em>in<\/em> Jesus comes <em>from<\/em> Jesus. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Before I move on, I give you my translation from my Spanish Bible (Reina-Valera 1960):<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-top:-1em; margin-left:25px\">Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those of you who have attained, by the justice of our God and Savior Jesus Christ, a faith as precious as ours:<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/2009\/i-will-show-forth\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/wp-content\/uploads\/they_that_know.jpg\" alt=\"And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee (Psalm 9:10)\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/wp-content\/uploads\/they_that_know.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/wp-content\/uploads\/they_that_know-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/wp-content\/uploads\/they_that_know-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/wp-content\/uploads\/they_that_know-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/wp-content\/uploads\/they_that_know-668x501.jpg 668w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The other thing that caught my attention is the expression <span id=\"knowledge\" class=\"bible\">&#8220;through the knowledge of&#8221;<\/span> in verses 2 and 3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grace and peace are multiplied to me through it. What an incentive to know Jesus!<\/li>\n<li>Through it, God&#8217;s divine power gives me all things that have to do with life and godliness (that is, godly living?).<\/li>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of which should lead me to questions such as these:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowing Jesus &#8212; what does that entail?<\/li>\n<li>Knowing Jesus &#8212; how does that happen?<\/li>\n<li>Knowing Jesus &#8212; what is that like?<\/li>\n<li>Knowing Jesus &#8212; is He such a priority to me?<\/li>\n<li>Knowing Jesus &#8212; do I?<\/li>\n<li>Knowing Jesus &#8212; am I satisfied with my present relationship with Him?<\/ul>\n<p>I could go on and on, pointing out other things in these few verses, but I need to get on to my work day. OK, this yet:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jesus has called me to the glory and virtue of His divine nature.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus has delivered me from the lust-driven corruption of the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By the way, my Spanish Bible ends the first sentence at the end of verse 2. And does not end the next sentence at the end of verse 4, but puts a semicolon there instead! More on that tomorrow, maybe.<\/p>\n<p>Oh. Ooops. I meant to start with 1 Peter! I didn&#8217;t notice I had keyed in the wrong reference til I was well into writing this.
