  1. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.<\/li>\n
  2. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n

    When I have a generous supply of “these things,” I will be active and fruitful “in the knowledge of”<\/a> Jesus. I am so intrigued by this concept. No, more than a concept — a reality of How Things Really Are. It sounds like knowing Jesus is meant to be something far more than intellectual acquaintance or cuddly relationship. Knowing Jesus is something active that bears fruit — in contrast to the idleness and fruitlessness mentioned in verse 8.<\/p>\n

    And somehow, having “these things” abounding in me brings that kind of real-life richness to my relationship with Jesus. Hmmmm… I just wonder what all that means… (If you have an idea, please comment about it below!)<\/p>\n

    Not only that, but not<\/em> having “these things” ruins and destroys my vision of and recollection of what I used to be without Jesus. I forget that I am a beneficiary of the great work, sacrifice, and gift of forgiveness. Though I must forget those things which are behind, I must not lose sight of the deliverance I have received from my sin, of the forgiveness I have received for it.<\/p>\n

    I simply must have “these things” in me, abounding!<\/p>\n

    Well, I was going to include verses 10 and 11. I even pecked out some notes for each already. (They tie in so closely to the verses above!) But I have to move on to my CLE writing. So…some of my thoughts about 10 and 11 will have to wait til tomorrow. But here are the verses themselves:<\/p>\n

    1. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:<\/li>\n
    2. For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n
