{"id":677,"date":"2008-10-24T06:16:20","date_gmt":"2008-10-24T13:16:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eaf.net\/pantinghart\/?p=677"},"modified":"2008-10-24T06:16:20","modified_gmt":"2008-10-24T13:16:20","slug":"cease-from-strife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eaf.net\/pantinghart\/2008\/cease-from-strife\/","title":{"rendered":"Cease from Strife"},"content":{"rendered":"<table width=150 border=0 cellpadding=10 cellspacing=0 bgcolor=\"#003300\" align=right align=texttop>\n<tr>\n<td><b><font color=\"#339933\">Reading:<\/font><br \/>\n<font color=\"#ffffff\">Proverbs 20:1-10<\/font><br \/>\n<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p>Why do people fight, argue, clash, contend, or not get along?<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes it&#8217;s to &#8220;protect their honor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I can identify with that.<\/p>\n<p>So what about this &#8220;wild idea&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p><b><font color=brown>&#8220;It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling&#8221;<\/font><\/b> (3).<\/p>\n<p>Cease from strife?<\/p>\n<p>Just how is <i>that<\/i> done?!<\/p>\n<p>I suppose it begins with a series of decisions, some of which may need to be made over and over.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I must decide to resist a contentious spirit within <i>me<\/i>.\n<\/li>\n<li>I must decide to value genuine peace.\n<\/li>\n<li>I must decide to put God&#8217;s honor above my own.\n<\/li>\n<li>I must decide to forgive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure there are more, but that&#8217;s good as a beginning.<\/p>\n<p>Now, here are four more verses that pertain.<\/p>\n<p><b><font color=brown>&#8220;The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with&#8221;<\/font><\/b> (Proverbs 17:14).<\/p>\n<p><b><font color=brown>&#8220;The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression&#8221;<\/font><\/b> (Proverbs 19:11).<\/p>\n<p><b><font color=brown>&#8220;And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ&#8217;s sake hath forgiven you&#8221;<\/font><\/b> (Ephesians 4:32).<\/p>\n<p><b><font color=brown>&#8220;If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men&#8221;<\/font><\/b> (Romans 12:18).<\/p>\n<p>What <i>is<\/i> in me?<\/p>\n<p><i>Who<\/i> is in me?<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"\/pantinghart\/wp-content\/whocanfind-b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pantinghart\/wp-content\/whocanfind-s.jpg\" alt=\"[Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
