No, I don’t mean feet that get in the way — as in, “All this stuff on my desk is in the way; I can’t find a place to write.”

I mean feet in the way — as in, they are in the path in which they’re supposed to be.

That’s one thing I think of when I read this verse:

“O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!” (Psalm 119:5).

I am blessed and encouraged this morning with the realization that my ways are disposed toward God and His laws.

Sure, I wish I were more that way. And I trust God will continue His work in me.

But I am so glad to see plenty of evidence that I do live according to His will.

He has been and continues to be at work in me!

My feet are in the way.

“Who have for my life laid down their own necks” (Romans 16:4).

This closing chapter of Romans impresses me with the many friends Paul singled out for mention.

And in the Holy Scriptures at that!

These were all people who contributed to Paul’s life.

He was who he was and accomplished what he accomplished, thanks, in part, to these folks.

He wasn’t too famous or important or independent to need friends who could help him, support him, encourage him, and pray for him.

That’s the kind of friend I want to be.

And I certainly need more of that kind of friend.

It’s up to me, I know.

May the Lord help me to broaden my circle of friends.
