How weakly we grasp the fervor of God’s hatred for certain things!

How weakly we resist some of those very things which the Holy Only rejects so passionately and so uncompromisingly!

He identifies seven of those abominable things in Proverbs 6:16-19.

Shall we listen again and be moved by His fury for such attitudes and actions?

  1. A proud look
  2. A lying tongue
  3. Hands that shed innocent blood
  4. An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations
  5. Feet that be swift in running to mischief
  6. A false witness that speaketh lies
  7. He that soweth discord among brethren

Evil abounds. Evil is multiplying. Spiritual darkness is deepening and extending.

So the society in which we live continues its accelerated moral collapse.

Perhaps that is why these verses from Proverbs 5 arrest my attention this morning:

“Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell” (5).

“Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house” (8).

“Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well” (15).

“And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?” (20).

“He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray” (23).

Take heed! Beware! Fight the good fight!

And don’t lose heart. The situation is not hopeless.

“But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound” (Romans 5:20).
