Reading:
Psalm 112

I want to be that man.

To the praise of the Lord.

And, sure, for my own blessing.

Like this:

“Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments” (1).

Notice that the man who fears God is also a man who finds great delight in God’s will.

Gulp! Delighting in knowing and doing the will of another??!! Gulp!

But I still want to be that man!

For the praise of God, yes.

For my own blessing, yes.

And also because of this:

“His seed shall be mighty upon the earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed” (2).

I desperately want my children to be spiritually mighty while they are here on this planet.

For the praise of God.

For their own blessing.

And for the spiritual prosperity of their own children.

Alas, I have not excelled at teaching and modeling the fear of the Lord and the delight in His commandments.

May the Lord — in His abundant mercy and grace — cause them to excel.
