Offered Up in Tunisia

Private

A Christian died for his faith in Tunisia. (That’s in Africa, right?)

Was he praying as he died? If so, what would a Christian be praying as a Muslim slices off his head?

I know this is old news. Apparently it happened back in early June, but I just learned about it Friday afternoon! Somehow, I didn’t know about this story of modern-day martyrdom.

Why not? I suppose some would argue that it has to do with a media effort to bury or ignore stories that show Islam in a bad light. Perhaps. Or maybe it’s just that these atrocities have become so frequent and common that one more fails to qualify as news.

Now a request from me — do not view the video at the linked article below. Seriously. I don’t say that in some perverse reverse psychology, hoping to “push” you into viewing it. I really do mean that request. I’ll tell you why after the excerpt below.

Liberal talk show host Tawfiq Okasha recently appeared on “Egypt Today” airing a video of Muslims slicing a young man’s head off for the crime of apostasy, in this case, the crime of converting to Christianity and refusing to renounce it. […]

A young man appears held down by masked men. His head is pulled back, with a knife to his throat. He does not struggle and appears resigned to his fate. Speaking in Arabic, the background speaker, or “narrator,” chants a number of Muslim prayers and supplications, mostly condemning Christianity, which, because of the Trinity, is referred to as a polytheistic faith…

Then, to cries of “Allahu Akbar!”—or, “God is great!”—the man holding the knife to the apostate’s throat begins to slice away, even as the victim appears calmly mouthing a prayer.

Muslims Slaughter Convert to Christianity in Tunisia

I did not view the video.

I have no interest in watching a man die. And if this is the death-for-his-faith murder of a fellow-Christian, it was a holy moment upon which I should not intrude. Any (sick?) curiosity I may have should be resisted and defeated.

Furthermore, why should I view a propaganda film put out by the enemies of God?

So why am I put up this post then?

  1. To remind you that people are being martyred for their faith
  2. To discourage you from watching the video, should you happen upon it later at some other site
  3. To remind me to pray for fellow believers enduring persecution
  4. To challenge us to pray for the redemption of the persecutors
  5. To ask you the question below

According to the description above, the condemned (yet about to be glorified) Christian brother appeared to be praying.

What might have he been praying
as the knife began to slice him away from this life?

I have three possible answers, but I’d rather you posted yours below.

  1. Maybe this? calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

  2. One of these, or perhaps all 3…

“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

“Thank You for finding me worthy to die for Your name & glory.”

“I love You, Lord Jesus, & I commit my spirit to you.”

  3. All of the 3 above are excellent. another might be “Lord give me the strength to die in such a way that it will bring honor and glory to your name”
