So many men to fear.

I might fear those who criticize me, those who don’t trust me, those who look down their noses at me.

I might fear those who wish me personal harm or those who dislike me (and/or my views).

I might fear terrorists as well as leaders of countries like Iran, North Korea, Russia, and China.

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe” (Proverbs 29:25).

Trust in God.

Only in Him will I find security and safety.

That’s a very good reminder for me.

No, not that math kind. This kind:

“Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:6).

Let me see what examples I can recall . . . .

Christian leaders must be unmarried. Baptism can be only one certain way. Committed, monogamous homesexual relationships are OK. Only bishops can serve Communion.

I can see easily enough that such addition is bad addition. But I wonder if there are any “smaller” and more personal examples.

I’m thinking of things I wouldn’t necessarily teach but which I might excuse in my life.

Examples? Disobedience is no problem if the misdeed is “small” enough. I don’t have to honor someone in authority if he behaves dishonorably. Laying up certain earthly treasures doesn’t matter. An unforgiving spirit isn’t always unsafe.

Mark, just take His Word as it is and live it.
