He had withered.

I thought of that this morning in the context of one of today’s Sunday School lesson in Ecclesiastes 1: Life Under the Son.

Here is the Psalm 1 answer to his Ecclesiastes 1 problem:

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

I also thought of the first three verses of Isaiah 55:

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

Solomon clearly had strayed from that.

Yesterday I thought of this:

Solomon saw the predictable, cyclical order in Creation but missed seeing the Creator. No wonder he thought it all vanity and vexation of spirit!

So…how am I?

  • Vexed or flourishing?
  • Withered or fruitful?
  • Blown by the wind or planted by the river?
  • Thirsty or satisfied?

Surely you could add something...
