What all does this verse include?

“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me” (Psalm 101:3).

When I read verses like that one, my mind right away goes to books and music. (That’s not all that’s involved here, I’m sure.)

So much CCR (contemporary Christian reading) appeals to the flesh. That must be what sells. Will I consume it for the trace minerals it might add to my diet?

Ditto CCM (contemporary Christian music).

But I enjoy CCR and CCM!

Even so, it still shouldn’t cleave (that is, stick) to me.

No matter how much something appeals to me and not matter how much I enjoy something, God’s approval should matter more to me.

I truly need His help in living by that standard!

“For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations” (Psalm 100:5).

Those look like three very good reasons to me.

The Lord’s goodness is an essential part of His character. I can count on Him to be good no matter what. What He does results from His goodness. Always.

I’m thankful for that.

The Lord’s mercy does not wear out. Mercy always flows from Him. It outlasts my need for mercy. Always.

I’m thankful for that.

The Lord’s truth lasts. It endures. It remains current. Despite the passage of time. Despite new discoveries. Despite changing circumstances. I can anchor my life on it. Always.

I’m thankful for that.
