What makes me glad?

Perhaps that’s the wrong question.

“The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory” (Psalm 64:10).

So here’s the better question: Who makes me glad?

If the Right Who were the source of my gladness, then all the Wrong Whats in the world wouldn’t affect my outlook.

So let me not depend on certain humans alone for gladness.

Nor let me depend on positive circumstances for gladness.

And certainly let me not depend on stuff for gladness.

That seems like a strange title, but I think it works pretty neat for some verses from Psalm 63.

“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is” (1).

“My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me” (8).

It seems like I’ve been in a dry, thirsty land. But that’s my fault. If I would seek God early and follow Him tenaciously, I would not be parched no matter how things are around me.

I’m also challenged by this:

“I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches” (6).

That would help my disposition also.
