Proverbs 23:13-24

“My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine” (15).

“Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things” (16).

“Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long” (17).

“Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old” (22).

“The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him” (24).

And don’t overlook verses 18-21 just because I didn’t include them above! (Nor verse 23.)

As a son, I accept for myself these instructions from the father.

I am also a father.

Children, listen and heed.

Proverbs 23:1-12

Generally, I enjoy working. But I’m kinda fed up with it right now.

Why? Well, never mind that.

I just mentioned it because of this:

“Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom” (4).

Though I don’t work to be rich, just why do I work?

To support and provide for my family — that’s a good reason. Even a noble one.

To buy what I personally need. That makes sense, too.

To have to give to God’s work (which includes giving to those in need).

To glorify God? 😯 Gulp!
