Chasing Bales
Every summer (for the last eight?!), we try to get down to the mid-Willamette Valley to take rides with Russell in “his” bale stacking outfit.
We almost missed it for this season.
But after lunch yesterday, Ruby and Andrew and I took off.

So here’s a story about the US-Mexico border fence. And the story begins in Nogales, split between Arizona and Sonora.
Well, folks, I’ve been in Nogales lots of times in the course of fifty years or so. (Granted, some of those years I was too young to notice much.) The photo accompanying this paragraph is not Nogales!
I know, I know — the story makes no claim that it’s Nogales. But still.
So I let’s take this in a totally different direction.
Is the person in the photo a drug smuggler coming north or a gun runner going south?
Or is it an Islamic terrorist sneaking into the States or an illegal immigrant fleeing back to Mexico after murdering someone in the US?

Our son Russell drives stacker for 4-6 weeks each summer, using a custom built 12 500-pound bale stacker, designed and used-to-be manufactured right there on farm.
This year they’re going commercial with their Bale Chaser by NW Ag Equipment.
The Bale Chaser from NW Ag Equipment is built commercial farm tough for stacking big bales. This machine can handle the biggest jobs with ease. The machine in this video is driven by Russell of J&J Farms and has picked up and stacked over 2200 bales in one day with one Bale Chaser.
In the following commercial, he’s doing the driving in most of the video. Toward the end, someone else is driving.
It’s very interesting to ride with him.

Radio Ads
Some radio advertisements I like; some I dislike; the majority I tune out.
Among the ones I dislike….
- The ones advertising male enhancement products — is the economy so bad that radio stations must help further in the mainstreaming of shamelessness?
- The ones with the “fine print” read at high speed — they must be trying to hide something.
- The ones that present men as…well…pick your own less-than-complimentary term — I thought we’d agreed that fatherhood and manliness need promoting in our culture!
- The ones related to politics — that season is getting awfully close again already.
- The ones trashing competitors — hey, can’t you guys sell us on the strength of your product and your service and your people!
- The ones that don’t identify themselves, but offer grand benefits for calling them — what are you hiding, incomeathome.com?
Now a closing note to Advanced Auto Parts — please bring back the guy you had before the guy who’s on now. I actually enjoyed your ads then, even though I don’t buy from you.
Oh, about #1 — at least I no longer have to listen to Steve from Lake Oswego (Oregon) give his testimonial!
